When the photo started spreading on social media, many people said it was a hoax. However, the police took care to explain on their official Facebook account that the news was unfortunately true: What you see in the driver’s seat of a car exceeding the speed limit on a crowded road is indeed a dog. The incident took place in Senica, Slovakia.
Apparently the dog was sitting on the lap of the driver, a 31-year-old young man from the area. However, only the animal’s face can be seen in the photo taken with the speed camera. The driver, who was stopped by the police and fined, justified himself by claiming that the dog threw him on his lap, but the officers watched the footage from the cameras without noticing any sudden movement of the vehicle. This shows that the 31-year-old man deliberately gave his pet the excitement of sitting in the driver’s seat while the car was moving at high speed.
“When transporting a dog, pay attention to the safety of the animal and all crew members in the car. Even a small animal can endanger your life,” police reminded on Facebook. “There are a number of protection systems that pet owners must use,” he added.
