The first underground school in Ukraine will be built in Kharkov

While many frontline schools were forced to switch to distance learning during the war, Kharkov organized about 60 separate classrooms at all metro stations before the new school year that started on September 1, creating learning spaces for more than 100 years. 1,000 children.

According to Terekhov, the new underground school will meet all requirements for the construction of shelters. It is not yet known how big this school will be and when it will open.

War in Ukraine. Kharkiv in Russia’s sights

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city (before the war it had 1.4 million inhabitants), is only 35 km from the border with Russia. The Russians attempted to take the city in the first phase of the invasion that began on February 24, 2022, and are now shelling it regularly.

Oleh Synehubov, governor of Kharkov Oblast, of which Kharkov is the capital, announced that as a result of the shelling of the city by Russian forces in the past 24 hours, one civilian was killed and several houses were damaged.

The Ministry of Education of Ukraine claims that as a result of hostilities across the country, 363 educational institutions have been destroyed and almost 3,800 damaged.

After failing to capture Kiev early in the war, Russian forces focused on gaining full control of Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts, which together form a region called Donbas. Parts of it were already controlled by Moscow-backed separatists before Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered his troops to attack all of Ukraine.
