A tragic bus accident occurred on the outskirts of Venice. At least twenty people were killed, including children.
In Venice, a bus accident occurred after 8 p.m. that fell from a viaduct onto the tracks and caught fire. According to reports, 21 people were killed (including two children), 15 were injured and several people were reported missing. According to the latest version, the vehicle was transporting tourists who were going camping.
Tragic accident
According to “Correre della Sera”, the accident took place on the outskirts of Venice, in the Mestre region. The La Linea bus ran on gas. According to the first version of events, the vehicle left the road, broke through a fence and, after flying about thirty meters, found itself near the railway lines.
The bus probably hit a power line and caught fire. At least forty ambulances are at the scene and rescuers are removing the bodies of the victims from the wreckage. “Many deaths, too many,” said one firefighter. Among the victims are a large group of foreigners. At the scene of the accident, among other things, Ukrainian passports were found.
The mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, ordered the city to mourn in memory of the numerous victims. “Apocalyptic scene, no words,” he said. Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki expressed his condolences to the families of the accident victims.
“Fatal bus crash in Italy – what a terrible tragedy. Polish thoughts and prayers are with the grieving families,” wrote the head of the Polish government.
The head of the Italian government, Giorgia Meloni, also expressed her condolences.
