New alarm. A strong earthquake of magnitude 6 was recorded off the coast of the Japanese archipelago of the Izu Islands: a warning was immediately issued for a possible tsunami. According to data from the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and the North American geological monitoring service USGS, the earthquake had a hypocenter at a depth of around 15 km and an epicenter southwest of the island of Torishima. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) issued a warning about a possible anomalous wave of around one meter high for the coasts of the Izu Islands and slight variations in sea level for those in southern Japan. The population was asked to stay away from the coast and reaching higher places.
