War in Ukraine, the Caesar system is Russia’s nightmare: the secrets

The weapon of the Ukrainian advance is the “Caesar”. Named after the distinctive title of Roman emperors, the French self-propelled artillery system is proving to be a real nightmare, as “Il Messaggero” writes. Arriving in Ukraine in 2022, the Caesar system helped change the course of the war by effectively dealing with Russian artillery. Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar is enthusiastic: “With the arrival of Caesar, the rules of the game have changed. This is a true nightmare for our enemies who could only dream of such scope.”

The French 155 mm howitzer is capable of firing up to 50 km thanks to the use of Excalibur smart projectiles. The César can fire up to six shots per minute, all thanks to the digital fire control system that guarantees automatic aiming of the howitzer. Another characteristic of the self-propelled gun is its speed, thanks to which the Caesar is able to quickly leave the firing position and escape enemy fire. But that’s not all, the howitzers underwent several improvements. Thanks to modifications from Denmark and the new chassis, ammunition capacity increased from 18 to 30 shells. The weapon is proving to be an excellent weapon against Moscow, as Hanna Maliar highlights: “So hated by the Russians that it is constantly hunted by kamikaze drones. However, their speed and maneuverability allow them to survive on the battlefield.”
