War in Israel. Has the White House found a way to increase aid to Ukraine?

According to the American press, the White House is considering the possibility of adding money for Ukraine to the request for urgent aid to Israel.

As the Washington Post reports, citing sources, “this will increase the likelihood that Congress will approve aid to Kiev, despite growing opposition from Republicans in the House of Representatives.”

One official told the newspaper that such a move could make sense because it could soften the position of Republicans’ right wing, which opposes more aid to Ukraine but strongly supports aid to Israel.

Will there be an invasion of the Gaza Strip?

The newspaper writes that the Middle East is “currently preparing for a massive Israeli invasion of Gaza.” A day earlier, there were reports that US President Joe Biden’s administration believed Israel could launch a ground operation in the Gaza Strip within the next 24 to 48 hours.

In this regard, Israeli officials have made several specific requests to Washington, including the supply of Iron Dome missile interceptors, small-bore bombs, various machine gun munitions, and increased cooperation in intelligence sharing regarding potential military activities in southern Lebanon.

The Washington Post notes that combining requests for military aid to Ukraine and Israel could increase the burden on U.S. supplies. Moreover, Israel’s demand for 155mm explosive shells may irritate Ukrainians, as this ammunition is scarce and “desperately needed for Kiev.”

Hamas attack on Israel

On Saturday morning, Hamas began operations against Israel with rocket attacks and militias attacking civilians in border areas. Palestinian armed groups have invaded more than two dozen cities, killing hundreds of Israeli civilians and officials, wounding thousands and taking an unknown number to Gaza as hostages.

In response to the attack, Israel launched a campaign of airstrikes on Hamas-related targets and announced the partial mobilization of reservists. Netanyahu announced that the country was in a state of war.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Poles against traveling to Israel

Due to the Hamas attack on Israel, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has introduced the fourth, highest alert level for travelers throughout Israel and advises against travel to this country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises Polish citizens not to leave their safe haven until the situation is clarified. “We appeal to our compatriots residing in Israel to contact the facility if they have not already done so. You can use the facility’s email address or emergency number,” the statement emphasizes.

At the same time, the government launched an evacuation bridge for Poles wanting to leave Israel. On Monday, four military planes returned from Tel Aviv to Warsaw, bringing a total of more than 300 people to the country.
