A breakthrough in Israel. Netanyahu and the opposition will establish a national unity government

Due to the ongoing war, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition leader Beni Gantz agreed to establish a national unity government.

Netanyahu and Gantz released a statement announcing the creation of a five-member “war management” cabinet. In addition to the Prime Minister and Gantz, this body will also include Defense Minister Joaw Galant and two other high-ranking government officials who will act as “observers.” They include former Chief of the General Staff of the Israeli Army, General Gadio Eisenkot, and Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer.

Furthermore, it was decided that during the war with Hamas, the Knesset would not pass any laws or resolutions unrelated to the war.

Hamas attack

Massive military operations against Israel began on Saturday. It started with a rocket attack, after which Hamas militias invaded Israeli territory in many places and attacked more than twenty cities. For this purpose, use was made of, among other things: paragliders and underground tunnels. The victims were Israeli citizens and officials. According to estimates, the militants took about 100 hostages.

Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that the country was in a state of war, and the Foreign Minister said that Israel would completely blockade the Gaza Strip.

Israeli forces have recaptured all settlements captured by Hamas, but fighting with the militants continues. In addition, Israel announced the mobilization of 300,000 conscripts who find themselves in a combat zone. It is therefore possible that there will be a land operation in the Gaza Strip.

Hamas is a radical Islamic organization whose main goal is the liberation of Palestine from Israeli occupation. The armed branch of Hamas is the al-Qassam Brigades.
