Two centre-left parties, Smer and Hlas, and one far-right party, the Slovak National Party (SNS). This is the composition of the majority that will support Robert Fico in his fourth term as prime minister of Slovakia. The three parties reached an agreement ten days after the results of the elections, in which Fico’s Smer won.
According to the memorandum of understanding signed in Bratislava today, Fico will assume the presidency of the government, and Hlas leader Peter Pellegrini will assume the presidency of the Parliament. Six ministers will go to Smer, seven ministers to Hlas and three ministers to Sns. The new coalition will include 79 of the 150 MPs in the Parliament. President Zuzana Caputová then tasked Fico with negotiating the formation of a new government.
During the election campaign, Fico supported the need to stop military aid to Ukraine. Speaking passionately after the election results, Erdogan said, “We believe that Ukraine is a great tragedy for everyone. If Smer is given the task of forming a cabinet, we will do our best to hold peace talks as soon as possible.” said.
