Video: Migrant was rescued before drowning in the Rio Grande

A compatriot of Dagniel, a resident of a camp set up by the migrants, threw himself into the river to drag him to Matamoros, where he asked for help from the Red Cross to provide first aid.

“I approached him because he was drowning and I couldn’t let him die“, the Venezuelan who saved him told EFE, Nelson Mendez.

Dagniel remained lying down until paramedics arrived to take him to the general hospital.

“I collided with the branch and was left there, I couldn’t get out, I had to go back and they helped me”, he expressed.

According to the report of the Medical Director of the Red Cross in Matamoros, José Arturo Sibaja Perales, the migrant is stable and will receive treatment for an amount of contaminated water that you have swallowed during the incident.

The event comes as Mexico and Central America face an “unprecedented” migration flow toward North America, the report said. International Organization for Migration (IOM), with up to 10,000 migrants arriving at the border with the United States every day, according to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
