Israel has announced a ‘major attack’ on the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian side reported that more than 50 people were killed as a result of airstrikes during the nighttime airstrikes.
Around 4:30 a.m., the Israeli army announced that its forces were carrying out a “major attack” on “Hamas-related targets” in the Gaza Strip.
Bombing the Gaza Strip
Israeli retaliatory attacks following Hamas’ attack on Israel on October 7 have left hundreds of thousands of people in the Gaza Strip homeless. According to UN estimates, there are 340,000 people. The Gaza Strip is a very densely populated area. Two million people live in an area much smaller than Warsaw.
The Health Ministry said 51 Palestinians were killed and 281 injured in overnight airstrikes by Israel on the Gaza Strip.
There are voices on the Israeli side saying that “Hamas will cease to exist.” Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden warned Iranian authorities not to get involved in Israel’s war with Hamas.
Hamas attack
Massive military operations against Israel began on Saturday. It started with a rocket attack, after which Hamas militias invaded Israeli territory in many places and attacked more than twenty cities. For this purpose, use was made of, among other things: paragliders and underground tunnels. The victims were Israeli citizens and officials. According to estimates, the militants took about 100 hostages.
Hamas is a radical Islamic organization whose main goal is the liberation of Palestine from Israeli occupation. The armed branch of Hamas is the al-Qassam Brigades.
Israel’s response
In response, Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that the country was in a state of war, and the Foreign Minister said that Israel would completely blockade the Gaza Strip. The Strip itself has since been shelled by the Israeli air force. The victims of air strikes are mainly civilians.
Israeli forces have recaptured all settlements captured by Hamas, but fighting with the militants continues. In addition, Israel announced the mobilization of 300,000 conscripts who find themselves in a combat zone. Preparations for a ground operation in the Gaza Strip are in full swing.
Since Saturday, a thousand Palestinians have been killed and five thousand injured. Among the Israelis, losses amount to at least 1,200 dead and 3,000 wounded.
