According to a joint announcement published on the social network Government of Nicolas Maduro and the opposition Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), which brings together several parties, “have decided to resume the process of dialogue and negotiation, facilitated by Norway, with the aim of reaching a political agreement.”
The short message, shared by the head of the official delegation, JOrge Rodriguezand that of the opposition group, Gerardo Blydeculminates with the information that talks will begin “on October 17, 2023 in Bridgetown, Barbados.
The dialogue between the ruling party and the opposition has gone through three rounds since the start of Mexico’s elections August 13, 2021, when both delegations signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the Mexican capital.
When those negotiations were suspended three months later, the opposition demanded “free” elections in the November 2021 regional elections, while Maduro demanded the end of international sanctions.
The parties returned to Mexico in November 2022, where they signed the second partial agreement for the US Protection of the Venezuelan peoplethe purpose of which was to recover state resources blocked in the international financial system, but the dialogues later froze again.
