Middle East, Vladimir Putin acts as peacemaker: what he says to Netanyahu

Russia is ready to promote a diplomatic solution to the conflict between Hamas and Israel. Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted this during his conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “The readiness of the Russian side to continue carrying out targeted work with the aim of putting an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and achieving a peaceful solution through political and diplomatic means was confirmed,” a Kremlin statement in the phone call said.

Russia is working to “help normalize the situation, avoid a new escalation of violence and a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip”. According to what the Kremlin reported in a note, Putin informed Netanyahu of the highlights of the talks he held with the Palestinian leader, Mahmoud Abbas and with the presidents of Egypt, Iran and Syria. Putin expressed “sincere condolences” to the Israeli victims and highlighted his “strong condemnation” of any action that targets the civilian population, “including women and children”.
