A traffic accident in Aruba involving a young Colombian woman had a fatal outcome. The woman was riding a motorcycle when she was hit by another vehicle.
The incident took place on October 11, as reported by the island country’s authorities. The Colombian was hit by a Kia Picanto at the intersection of LG Boulevard Smith and Boulevard Adrian Lacle.
The young woman, who was not traveling alone, was thrown along with her companion about 30 meters away from the crash site. Both were left lying in the middle of the road with serious injuries.
After this, both were injured “urgently, the two people were transferred to a care center,” said Lito Lacle, spokesman for the police force.
The motorcycle the two people were riding on was completely destroyed, while the car had serious damage to the front.
Once at the medical center, those involved in the collision were identified as Lyendrick Kelly, 24, and Luisa Torres, 21, the latter of Colombian descent.
Torres’ severe injuries forced doctors to treat her in a coma; however, due to the severity of her injuries, the young woman died in the last few hours.
If this is the case and according to figures from the Aruba Police, the young Colombian will become “the eighth victim of traffic accidents so far in 2023.”
It is also known that the driver of the vehicle was arrested the same day by the Aruba authorities because he was apparently driving under the influence of alcohol.
However, the man was later released after it was found that he was “drinking, but not enough”, reports 24ora.com.
But when Luisa Torres’ death was known, the Aruba police arrested him again to answer for the crime of involuntary manslaughter.
Meanwhile, Lyendrick Kelly was transferred to Colombia where he is receiving specialized medical care to treat injuries from the accident, which has left his health condition serious.
