Hamas frees American mother and daughter: who they are. “Let’s free more foreigners”

Hamas released two American-Israeli hostages: Judith Tai and Natalie Raanan, mother and daughter who had been held captive in the Gaza Strip since October 7, the day of the attack on Israel by the Palestinian armed group. Hamas says it is “working with mediators from Egypt, Qatar and other friendly countries” to secure the release of other “foreign” hostages. “This commitment remains firm as we seek to implement our decision to release individuals of foreign nationality from temporary custody, as and when security circumstances permit,” the Palestinian organization said in a statement shortly after the release of the two American women.

Uri Raanan, the freed girl’s father, said his daughter was fine and had spoken to her on the phone. “I’m crying and I feel really, really good.” The 71-year-old who lives near Chicago said he saw on the news that two American women were being freed and hoped it was them.

US President Joe Biden spoke on the phone with Judith and Natalie. The White House reports this. “The president has just concluded a phone call with the two Americans released today after being taken hostage by Hamas during the terrible terrorist attack on Israel”, the note reads. “He advised that they will have the full support of the United States government as they recover from this terrible ordeal.” The White House said Biden also spoke with his family members.
