There will be 565 mass shootings in the United States by 2023: Gun Violence Archive

This year alone, there have been 565 mass shootings in the United States, such as last Wednesday’s in the state of Maine, bringing the country closer to the end of 2023 with record data for these types of incidents, despite the efforts of US authorities. Joe Biden’s administration will impose new restrictions on access to guns, especially semi-automatic weapons.

He Gun Violence Archives (GVA), an NGO founded in 2013 that regularly collects this type of data, defines a mass shooting as a shooting that kills or injures at least four people, not including the attacker.

Statistics from previous years show 645 cases in 2022, 688 in 2021 and 610 in 2020, the three most violent years since this group began compiling its reports.

The shootings at three different stores: Sparetime Recreation, Schemengees Bar & Grille Restaurant and a Walmart distribution center in Maine bring the number of shootings this year to 565, although this is the 31st case where the death toll is at least four.

So far this year, more than 15,500 people have died in a gun-related incident in the United States – cases of suicide have been ruled out. At least 246 children under the age of 11 died, while data for young people aged 12 to 17 exceeded 1,100.
