A Hamas spokesman interrupted the interview after asking about civilians

A Hamas spokesman interrupted a BBC interview when asked about the killing of Israeli civilians. “I want to stop this interview,” he said.

Hamas spokesman Ghazi Hamad spoke to BBC reporter Hugo Bachega about the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the situation in the Middle East.

A Hamas spokesman interrupted the interview

Hamad presented Hamas’ position. He explained that there was a fight for freedom and against the Israeli occupation.

However, at one point he refused to continue the interview. Bachega addressed the attack by the Qassam Brigades (the armed branch of Hamas) on Israeli civilians on October 7. He recalled that militants entered settlements in southern Israel, where they targeted civilians.

The Hamas representative began arguing that the attack “was a military operation.” – It was aimed at military targets, at military facilities – he insisted, but the presenter did not give up and stated that “hundreds of civilians died”. Hamad argued that Hamas’ attack also targeted “soldiers who imposed sanctions and collective punishment” on the Palestinian people.

– I think we said from the very beginning that this operation was not aimed at civilians. However, I can confirm and assure you again and again that there were no orders, no order to kill civilians, he said.

Later in the conversation, Bachega asked the Hamas representative again about civilians. – How do you justify killing people in their sleep? You know, families? How do you justify…? – he said. At this point, Hamad announced that he wanted to “stop this interview” and removed the microphone.

An excerpt of the interview was published on social media, including: at location X.

Questions about Israeli citizens

Al-Arabian Arab journalist Rasha Nabil’s recent interview with one of Hamas’ leaders, Khalid Mashal, also received a lot of attention. The journalist pointed out that the entire Western world saw that the current fighting, resulting in the humanitarian catastrophe of the Gaza Strip, started with a brutal attack by militants on Israeli civilians.

The journalist emphasized that in the eyes of the West, this cannot have a positive impact on the Palestinian cause. – You sit outside Gaza, in an air-conditioned room and talk about war, jihad, bombings… – Nabil said during the interview.

The conversation is widely spread on Arabic social networking sites and is at the top of the trends. You can watch it with English subtitles.
