Riots at Dagestan airport. Israel appeals to Russia

A crowd protesting the arrival of the plane from Tel Aviv stormed the airport runway in Dagestan’s capital Makhachkala.

Makhachkala Airport is closed. Aircraft are sent to alternate airports or returned to their departure airports.

The plane from Tel Aviv landed in the capital of Dagestan in southern Russia at 7:17 PM local time. Several dozen protesters entered the terminal building and also attempted to tear down the fence surrounding the airport. They shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’. The recordings circulated on social media. On one of the banners you can see the inscription: “There is no place for child murderers in Dagestan.” Palestinian flags are also visible.

Israel appeals to Russia

Israeli authorities appealed to the Russian Federation to protect their citizens and “all Jews.” “The State of Israel takes seriously any attempts to harm Israeli citizens and Jews anywhere,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry said.

Russian police officers and OMON units appeared at Makhachkala airport.

A few days ago, Israel called on Russia to expel a Palestinian Hamas delegation coming to visit Moscow, pointing out that such an invitation was “indecent” and “deplorable.” The Russian embassy in Israel responded by calling attempts to accuse Moscow of supporting terrorism “unacceptable.” The Kremlin pointed out that it is necessary to maintain relations with all parties to the conflict. The press spokesman of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, stated that Hamas representatives spoke with representatives of Russian diplomacy, but not with President Putin or Kremlin officials. According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, senior Hamas member Abu Marzook was expected to meet with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister as part of the visit. Politicians raised issues related to a ceasefire and the provision of humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
