The Kremlin returned control over some of the occupied territories in the Donbas

The authorities in Moscow transferred part of the occupied territory of Luhansk Oblast to the Republic of Tatarstan.

Tatarstan is a subject of the Russian Federation that is part of the Volga Federal District. According to the Ukrainian National Resistance Center (NRC), the Kremlin has transferred the agglomeration of three cities: Severodonetsk, Lisichansk and Rubizhne to the rule of the republic.

“Ukrainska Pravda” reports that in connection with the creation of a new jurisdiction, a delegation from Tatarstan led by Prime Minister Alexei Pesoshin recently visited the occupied part of Luhansk Oblast.

Tatarstan must lead the occupation

According to these reports, the new occupation authorities are planning projects to demonstrate the “reconstruction of infrastructure” as well as a program to “re-educate local youth.” The NRC thinks that about 200 children would be sent to a special camp in Kazan in October.

Tatarstan will also finance the construction of special sports and paramilitary centers, intended for the “education” of young people with a mandatory propaganda and political element, and a campaign for recruitment into paramilitary organizations.

“Ukrainska Pravda” points out that the Kremlin had previously handed over control of the occupied Donetsk Oblast to the faction of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov.

War in Ukraine. Russia wants to secede from the Donbas

After a failed attempt to capture Ukraine’s capital, Kiev, Russian forces focused on gaining full control of Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts, which together form the Donbas region. Parts of it were already controlled by Moscow-backed separatists before Vladimir Putin ordered his forces to attack all of Ukraine in February 2022.

Russia calls its actions against Ukraine not a war, but a “special military operation” and demands that Kiev “demilitarize and denazify” the country and recognize Crimea, annexed in 2014, as Russian.

By attacking Ukraine, Putin sparked the largest armed conflict in Europe since the end of World War II and imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia from the United States, the European Union and other Western countries.
