The Bolivian government cut diplomatic ties with Israel on Tuesday. The reason for this is the actions of the Israeli side on the territory of the Gaza Strip.
Bolivia’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that the country has severed diplomatic ties with Israel. The reason is the ‘crimes against humanity’ that Israel – according to the Bolivian authorities – is committing in the Gaza Strip.
As the Reuters news agency recalled, under the government of Evo Morales, the country broke diplomatic ties with Israel in 2009 in protest against the attacks on the Gaza Strip. They were restored in 2020 under President Jeanine Anez.
Israeli attack on a refugee camp
A powerful explosion occurred in a refugee camp in the city of Jabaliya in the northern part of the Gaza Strip. Authorities report “hundreds of dead and injured” and “many people are still under the rubble.” Israel has already claimed responsibility for the attack.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday categorically ruled out the possibility of a ceasefire in the fight against Hamas. The politician emphasized that Israel’s current goal is the destruction of Hamas. He added that all wars cause unintended civilian casualties, and that the Israeli attack targets Hamas and is a battle between “civilization and barbarism.”
Israel-Hamas war
The ground invasion of the Gaza Strip is underway. On Tuesday, the Israeli side announced it was beginning to fight Hamas fighters in a network of underground tunnels. Over the past 24 hours, the Israeli army has hit around 300 targets, including anti-tank positions and rocket launchers, as well as Hamas tunnels and military facilities.
Tensions rose again in the Middle East on October 7, when militants from the radical Palestinian movement Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Hamas said it was in response to aggressive actions by Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City. In response, Israel announced a complete blockade of the Gaza Strip and began launching rocket attacks on Gaza, as well as on some districts of Lebanon and Syria.
