The Federal Association of Research and Information Centers for Anti-Semitism warns that a sharp increase in anti-Semitic behavior has been recorded in Germany.
– About 1,800 anti-Semitic crimes have occurred since Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, said Daniel Poensgen, a researcher at the Federal Association of Centers for Research and Information on Anti-Semitism.
However, this is not the end, as the association reports at least several hundred cases that are not prosecuted.
“There is a growing number of hostile behavior in the workplace, as well as cases of marking apartments and houses where Jews live. This causes many people to feel great anxiety. Jews are also threatened on social media,” we read on dw.com.
Poensgena states that the number of registered cases of anti-Semitism has recently tripled.
Demonstrations in Germany
Demonstrations in support of Palestine are taking place in many countries. A wave of pro-Palestinian protests is also sweeping Germany. According to media reports, several dozen people were arrested and 80 police officers were injured during demonstrations in Berlin in recent days.
– The situation is under control for the time being. The police have so far been able to deal with the protests, although not completely, because it is clear that the atmosphere is heated. The Berlin police appeal to the German government for reinforcements. Also in other cities – Tomasz Lejman, a reporter for television station Polsat News, reported on Friday.
Authorities in Berlin banned demonstrations in support of Palestine, but events took place nevertheless – the largest at the Brandenburg Gate and at the Monument to the Murdered Jews of Europe. Protesters chanted “Free Palestine.” There were clashes with the police, petrol bottles and stones were thrown. The police used water cannons. Several passenger cars and a truck burned down.
