War in Ukraine, 007 in Seoul: North Korea sends ammunition to Russia

South Korea’s top spy agency believes North Korea has sent more than 1 million artillery shells to Russia since August to help fuel Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war against Ukraine. This was reported by a parliamentarian who participated in a closed-door meeting with Seoul intelligence officials. Both Pyongyang and Moscow have denied US and South Korean allegations that North Korea transferred arms supplies to Russia.

According to South Korean lawmaker Yoo Sang-bum, Seoul’s national intelligence service believes that North Korea has sent more than 1 million artillery shells to Russia via ships and other transportation since the beginning of August to help strengthen Russia’s combat capabilities in Ukraine. These projectiles would be roughly equivalent to two months of supplies for the Russians, Yoo said. The agency believes that North Korea has been operating its munitions factories at full capacity to meet Russian munitions requirements and has also mobilized residents to increase production, Yoo said. There are also signs that North Korea sent weapons experts to Russia in October to advise Russian authorities on how to use exported North Korean weapons.
