Stewardess Ilaria De Rosa, arrested for marijuana in Saudi Arabia, was released

Ilaria De Rosa is free again. The 23-year-old Italian stewardess, who was arrested on drug trafficking charges in Saudi Arabia last April, was released from prison and headed to Italy. On the morning of Thursday, November 2, the doors of Jeddah prison were opened, where the young woman was found in possession of marijuana while the police searched a private party. Last June, a Saudi court sentenced him to six months in prison, which was later confirmed. The 23-year-old from Treviso was released after serving his sentence and set off for Italy on a Saudi Airlines flight: his arrival in Rome is scheduled for 13.40. As reported by Corriere della SeraIt is not clear whether the girl will decide to go to Veneto or leave our country immediately to return to Belgium, where her father, who serves as an air force officer at a NATO base, lives.

Ilaria De Rosa’s misfortune began between late April and early May. When the young woman’s mother could not contact her, she went to the Carabinieri in Castelfranco Veneto to file a complaint. The 23-year-old, who was a stewardess for the Lithuanian Avion Express company, had settled in Jeddah for a few months and was taking frequent breaks here. After contacts with the airline and Farnesina’s intervention, it was possible to reconstruct the dynamics of the arrest and accusation. A 23-year-old young man, who was wanted during a police raid on a private party, seized drugs. In detail, rumors have surfaced in recent months that agents found a hidden joint in her bra. The girl’s family members immediately flew to Arabia to closely follow the story, which also directly involved Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. The trial took place last June, with judges imposing a six-month prison sentence. A sentence that the stewardess began giving last May and ended, as expected, in early November.

The news was also confirmed by Venetian senator Pierantonio Zanettin, leader of Forza Italia’s group in the Justice Commission of Palazzo Madama: “Sincere compliments to the Vice-President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, who personally followed the sensitive issue. We would like to thank the Farnesina staff who worked with the usual professionalism and efficiency.”
