Hot situation in the Middle East. American forces attacked a site in eastern Syria used by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and affiliated groups. The announcement was made by US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, according to whom the “act of self-defense”, ordered by President Joe Biden, was carried out by two F-15s, which hit an ammunition depot. “This precision strike was conducted in response to a series of attacks against American personnel in Iraq and Syria by affiliates of the Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force,” the Pentagon chief stressed. Nine people affiliated with Iranian-backed groups in Syria were killed in the operation. The assessment is made by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in the United Kingdom and with sources in the Arab country.
Meanwhile, a US MQ-9 military drone was shot down by the Houthis off the coast of Yemen (it was in international airspace). In recent weeks, a US Navy ship intercepted and shot down several missiles and drones launched by the pro-Iranian Shiite Houthi movement towards Israel. US bases in Iraq and Syria have been under attack by pro-Iranian militias present in both countries since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel.
