Foreigners cannot leave the gas strip
In his statement, Rau emphasized the need for all parties to respect international humanitarian law. Recognizing the need to increase humanitarian assistance and the capacity of the Rafah border crossing, he appealed to foreigners, including nearly 30 Polish citizens, to leave the Gaza Strip immediately.
The minister also emphasized Poland’s involvement in Palestine, both bilaterally and multilaterally, as well as its presence and role in building stabilization in the region. He recalled that due to the current situation, Polish payments to the Relief and Work Organization for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) have been doubled.
Rau also recalled the ongoing large-scale war in Ukraine and the country’s humanitarian needs in connection with the coming winter. He stressed that both crises require greater attention and action from the international community.
Rau calls on Hamas to release all hostages
During the conference in Paris, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Hamas’s acts of terror against the civilian population of Israel and emphasized the right of every state to defend itself, in accordance with international law. He also called for the immediate release of all hostages held in the Gaza Strip.
As the Foreign Ministry previously reported, “no circumstance justifies the fact that Poles who have been in the Gaza Strip for three weeks cannot leave it, even if the Polish authorities are waiting to receive them on the Egyptian side.”
