Trapped in a car, he shoots eco-activists. Shock in Panama: one dead and one injured

A man blocked in the car by a protest by a group of eco-activists got out of the car, took out a gun and after trying to remove the tires placed on the road to impede traffic, shot two protesters at close range, one of whom died shortly afterwards, while the other is seriously injured. It happened in Panama, in Central America. The demonstration was taking place on the Pan-American highway. According to CNN, this is the most serious bloody incident in Panama since the mass protests against Manuel Noriega’s dictatorship in the 1980s.

The blockade by eco-activists was triggered as part of protests against a mining contract awarded to Minera Panama, a local subsidiary of a Canadian mining company, to extract copper. In a video posted on social media, the man is seen talking to some protesters and then shoots him a short distance from his targets, in front of dozens of appalled protesters. The man was then arrested by police, as documented in the video.
