Delays of up to an hour were reported on parts of the M4 in Newport on Thursday afternoon, and there are also major delays on the motorway in Monmouthshire.

Delays are up to 20 minutes between junction 23A at Magor and junction 25 at Caerleon, following an earlier crash on the westbound service which closed one lane.

The Inrix traffic monitoring system reports delays of around 50 minutes westbound on the M4 at the Bringlas tunnels, although these are steadily decreasing. One lane is closed on the westbound M4 between junctions 24 and 25 due to a previous accident which continues to affect congestion in the area.

Traffic is “fast but moving” in Bringlas tunnels

According to monitoring service Inrix, traffic in the Brynglas area is again moving west. Delays of up to 60 minutes were reported in the last 10 minutes before Junction 26 on Malpas Road. The image below shows the latest news in Caerleon.

The delay between Monmouthshire and Newport is almost 30 minutes.

There are significant delays of up to 22 minutes between Magor Services (23A) and Caerleon (25) following the previous crash on the M4 westbound.
