Three drones entered Israeli territory today from Lebanon. The announcement was made by the spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), explaining that “recently three planes entered the territory of the State of Israel from Lebanon”. Hagari explained that “air defense fighters intercepted one plane, two other planes crashed in the northern zone”. The IDF spokesperson then stated that “the incident is closed and its details are under investigation.” Lebanese broadcaster MTV says that “three Israeli soldiers were injured by the explosion of a drone or mortar from Lebanon.”
Meanwhile, Israel denied the Al Arabiya report that Tel Aviv had reached an agreement with Hamas for the release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for hostages held in Gaza. This was reported by Kan TV, which cites an Israeli government source. “Intense efforts” to achieve a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas were discussed at a meeting in Cairo between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The Egyptian Presidency made this known, while both Cairo and Doha work to find a solution to the conflict.
Al-Sisi and Sheikh Tamim “discussed the Israeli military build-up in the Gaza Strip and the resulting regional challenges that are pushing the region in dangerous and incalculable directions”, reads a note from the Egyptian presidency. The two leaders, the note continues, discussed the best ways to “protect innocent civilians in Gaza and stop the bloodshed.” Furthermore, it states, “they examined the intensive efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and supporting the delivery of humanitarian aid in quantities that meet the needs of the Palestinian people in Gaza”.
