A woman whose mother was murdered by her own brother appeared in court and told her: “You are not my brother.” He described his mother as “the most beautiful and pure soul” and told how she was saved from death.
There were angry scenes in court as Lewis Bush was sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 16 years for the murder of his mother, 44-year-old Kelly Pitt. As the sentencing hearing drew to a close, a man in the public gallery stood up and addressed the defendant, saying: “You bastard, you bastard, fucking murderer, you fucking whore.” ***, f***ing shit, murderous scum.” The woman could also be heard shouting: “Bitch, you idiot, you ruined his life.”
Pitt’s daughter, Jordan Bush, gave an emotional victim impact statement during the hearing, in which she said her mother suffered horrific injuries with lacerations to her face, which was purple and swollen, when she was found in her Newport home. The bedding and mattress were soaked in his own blood.

At a hearing at Newport Crown Court on Friday, Mrs Bush said: “Firstly, I would like to talk a little about my mother. My mother was loving, caring, and the kindest person you could ever meet. She was fun, fun and would do anything for anyone she met. She always made sure we were all well taken care of, putting their needs before her own, but most of all, she was my mother, the most caring and loving mother anyone could ask for.
“She was always in the kitchen, preparing different dishes that she saw in advertisements on television or on social media. Mum was also a very warm and welcoming lady who made sure everyone was looked after and felt at home no matter the circumstances. My God, she was beautiful inside and out. I miss her so much. “My mom loved gardening, decorating, and most of all, she loved butterflies and loved our trips to the cemetery to see our sister Lauren.”
The court heard that after his mother’s murder, Bush lied to his sister about his mother’s condition and left the scene after Jordan’s partner, Kieran Saunders, visited his department at Sandalwood Court on the morning of the 12th of May. He later arrived at the police station and, after being arrested on suspicion of Mrs Pitt’s murder, said: “Murder, murder? You’ve got to be kidding me’ and ‘What? My mother is dead, really?
Addressing her brother, Mrs Bush said: “You, Lewis Bush, took our mother, the most special person in my life, killed her and caused her terrible injuries, our mother did not deserve this. You also left my five-year-old daughter. at that time without the nanny who loved her very much and now she will never see her granddaughter grow up again because of her actions.
“We are all devastated by what you did and we will never get over this. All my life, when you were a child, you bullied my mother, Lauren, and us, but I have finally calmed down knowing that you can no longer bully my mother, Lauren, and especially me. At least Lauren and Mom are together now, away from you. I hope you know that Lauren would be as upset and shocked as I am that you, our brother, killed our mother, the most beautiful pure soul.
“The last time I spoke to you and will speak to you was on Friday, May 12, 2023, when you lied to Kieron and me, knowing that you would keep us out of your mother’s apartment because you knew what you had done to her . My beautiful mother’s last words on Wednesday May 10th were “Call the police live, he’s going to do something” and guess what. I never called the police because I thought the next day everything would be fine as usual, my heart is broken and I have to live with the guilt for the rest of my life for not calling the police that night.
“For two days you pushed me away saying that our mother was not well, but on Friday I realized something was wrong. All those times you answered Mom’s phone and lied to me because you later found out you were with her, that call from Keiron I’ll tell you, never forget to say: “He beat her until she was blue, Jord, her head is frozen, I think she’s dead.” ”. It’s something Keiron will never forget, it’s what he saw when he walked into Mom’s room, what you now admit you have to do to her. She didn’t deserve that all she did was love you…
“I’m sad because now I’m alone and I don’t have a mother, sister or brother because you’re not my brother after what you did to our mother, she was my best friend, my (my daughter’s) grandmother, now we have to live without her my whole life because of you.
“Since that Friday, Keiron has not been able to work and is now ill, with mental health problems, because what he saw that day will never go away, no one should have to see what he saw. He was diagnosed with mental health issues. and losses, and now he is taking medication and waiting for an appointment. He goes to bed and all he sees is his mother in bed with all the injuries you caused her, her body shakes as we talk about her. He will live with this for the rest of his life.
“And you did this to your own mother, how could you do this to her? All she did was love you. I suffer from depression and PTSD and am now in therapy because of you. No sentence will be as long as the one I have.” “Living without a mother and (my daughter) without a grandmother for the rest of her life, and that thought breaks my heart.”
Kelly Pitt’s father, Adrian Pitt, also read a statement, saying he felt “guilty” for failing to protect his daughter from his grandson. He said: “Well, I can’t believe I’m here at Newport Crown Court waiting for the judge to decide what sentence to give you, my grandson, for the murder of my daughter Kelly and her mother. I lost my daughter, Sian lost my beloved sister and Jordan lost his mother, all because of you, you bully.
“There are no words to describe the pain I feel every day, wondering how long my daughter was there with all those horrible injuries that you admitted to on the mission and admitted that you were responsible for her murder. The call my daughter Kelly made to her sister Jordan says she’s going to do something, words she’s heard many times before. But this time you finally did it.
“The last time I saw your mother in person was the day after you hit her again, causing serious injury, I knew you were out on bail for your mother and I thought she would be safe from you, but clearly these conditions of The bond will not prevent him from visiting his home address, where he should be protected from you.
“I wake up every day wondering how much my daughter has suffered in the last few days. I have so many unanswered questions that make every day so difficult. How could you beat your mother to death? What could I have done to protect her from you? Try to understand that you are responsible.
“I just don’t see how I’m going to move forward or how I’m going to accept what happened. It makes me sad to know that I will never see or speak to my daughter again. My wife Joan and I still have six months left. I didn’t fully believe the way your mother’s life ended. I feel guilty for not being able to protect her from you.
“I haven’t been able to go back to work since that horrible day, I suffer from stress and anxiety and I’m seeking therapy. Since I can’t work, my finances have suffered and again, it’s because of your actions. How could you? do this?
I don’t enjoy the things I used to enjoy doing, like going to Newport County football, going on holiday, I just can’t enjoy it knowing that my daughter will never be able to enjoy it. I’m afraid that wherever I go people will ask me what happened and I just don’t want to talk about it.
“Seeing the pain in my elderly parents’ eyes at the loss of the first of five grandchildren and the worst way she was brutally killed by her own son in her own home. No sentence will be long enough for you, Lewis.
