Those who are dissatisfied from the party polls can protest: AMLO

The President Andrés Manuel López Obrador He emphasized that it will be the citizens who will select the provisional candidates of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena) in nine states of the country for the 2024 elections.

“Studies are being conducted to find out who is in the best situation and it is the people who decide,” he explained during his daily press conference in Baja California on Friday.

“Anyone who is dissatisfied also has the right to protest, we are free,” he added.

The question to López Obrador referred directly to Senator Lucía Meza’s resignation from Morena after she was not included in that party’s internal vote.

A day after quitting the official party, the Broad Front for Mexico, she announced she would be the standard-bearer for governor in next year’s elections.

This Friday, Morena will announce who will be the coordinators for defending the transformation into nine federated units. With this title, Morena nominated his candidates so as not to violate the deadlines set in the electoral laws.

Under National Electoral Institute (INE) provisions, parties must nominate five women and four men for positions to be contested in eight states next year, in addition to the head of Mexico City’s government.

In the capital, the position is contested by Iztapalapa Mayor Clara Brugada and CDMX’s former Citizen Security Minister Omar Garcia Harfuch.
