Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković dismissed Defense Minister Mario Banozic a few hours after a traffic accident caused by the minister himself, in which one person died. Banozic received the news while he was in the hospital, where he was seriously injured.
“Taking into account the extraordinary circumstances, I decided to dismiss Defense Minister Banozic from her post,” Plenković said at an extraordinary press conference. he said and expressed his condolences to the family of forty-year-old father of two, Goran Saric. He died when the minister’s jeep and his minibus collided head-on.
According to the first information in the local media, Banozic was going hunting with some of his friends in his private car on Sunday. At around 6am he tried to overtake a truck despite the fog but did not see the minibus driven by the victim approaching. The impact was inevitable and unfortunately proved fatal for the 40-year-old. The former minister was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but his life is not in danger. He faces a prison sentence of 1 to 15 years.
