Crash of an American military plane in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. Five American soldiers aboard the aircraft involved in an exercise died. The announcement was made by the US European Command (Eucom), according to which “during a routine aerial refueling mission as part of military training, a US plane carrying five soldiers suffered an accident and crashed into the Mediterranean Sea. All five soldiers died.” In a previous note, Eucom had clarified that “there is no evidence of hostile activity” involving the plane in the accident that occurred on Friday, November 10. The exact coordinates of the crash are also unknown at this time.
In recent weeks, many US assets have been concentrated in the Eastern Mediterranean, as ordered by the White House and the Pentagon for the Middle East crisis, such as the presence of the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford. The expression used by Eucom, “there is no evidence of hostile activity”, seems to exclude that the vehicle could have been hit by fire from Hamas or other armed jihadist groups that recently attacked American bases in the region.
