Yesterday’s Sejm proceedings received a lot of commentary from the German media. Most commentators criticize or ridicule PiS.
At a ceremony at the Presidential Palace on Monday evening, President Andrzej Duda accepted the government resignation submitted by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and at the same time entrusted him with the mission of creating a new cabinet.
“Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” estimates that Morawiecki has no chance of forming a government, but his speech keeps him a topic of conversation.
German media: Morawiecki’s defeat
“Currently, Morawiecki still has the impression that he can not only continue in temporary office with the support of President Andrzej Duda, who has ties to PiS, but also form a new government,” we read. However, the newspaper writes that the prime minister was ridiculed by opposition politicians.
This topic is also discussed by Die Welt. The newspaper adds that President Duda was also ridiculed when he spoke about respect for the rule of law. “In recent years, PiS has been repeatedly accused of undermining the rule of law in Poland,” we read.
Gabriele Lesser of “Die Tageszeitung” in turn states that Morawiecki will “have to admit defeat” in four weeks at the latest.
“This is his last service for the party, because as a ‘loser’ he will no longer be able to play a leading role in PiS. Duda, who apparently wants to replace the already very senile party leader Jarosław Kaczyński, may delete one name from the list of rivals for power: Morawiecki “- says the”TAZ” journalist.
When will Morawiecki present the composition of the new government? The deadline is extended
Government spokesman Piotr Müller said on Radio Plus on Tuesday morning that Morawiecki has fourteen days to present the composition of the Council of Ministers to the president. – I bet it will be between the 12th and 14th day of this deadline – he added.
When asked about potential PiS coalition partners in the new Sejm, Müller emphasized that “the invitation will be open to everyone.”
– But of course the natural group of people who have something of it views that converge with PiS (…) is the Third Way. Of course also the Confederation – volo there are people who, for example, supported Marshal Witek in yesterday’s vote, we are also open here – said the government spokesperson.
