A woman who postponed her wedding for 13 years because of her weight, which tipped the scales at 19.5 kilos, is now planning her big day after losing it, counting down the days until her dream wedding after losing more than 125 kilos. Vicky Jenn, 44, admits she put off her big day for 13 years due to low self-esteem and a series of health problems which contributed to her weight gain.
But after losing almost half her weight following gastric bypass surgery in Latvia, the healthcare professional will finally marry her partner Filip, 39, this month. She said: “I struggled with my weight for a long time and it affected many different areas of my life.
“When I was older I had very low self-esteem, I avoided going out and I hated shopping because I never thought I would look good in anything. I wanted to get married 13 years ago, but I wasn’t in the right place in my life. I was struggling with a number of health issues and my size meant I didn’t think I could have the wedding I wanted.
“Now that I have lost weight, my life and my attitude towards life have completely changed. as if he were a different person. I’m much happier. My health issues are easier to deal with and I finally feel like the time is right to marry the person I love.”
Mum-of-two Vicky, from Tenby, Pembrokeshire, was always active and enjoyed sports such as horse riding until she developed hip problems after giving birth to her daughter in 2014. This led to her becoming stuck on a cycle of steroids and immunosuppressants . and prescription painkillers.
Compounding personal problems in 2013, when she suffered the first of six miscarriages in as many years, and the neonatal death of her son in 2018, Vicki’s weight continued to increase. Eventually, a distraught Vicky sought help from her GP and was given the green light for weight loss surgery by the NHS, only to face a years-long waiting list.

After mini gastric bypass surgery in April 2022, her weight dropped to just 11 pounds and she changed her dress size from a 22 to a 10. And now she’s enjoying a renewed life ahead of her wedding at 24. from November.
Vicky added: “The difference between me now and before the operation is like night and day. I feel like I’m 20 again and I have so much more energy to do the things I love. Now I can help my daughter enjoy cycling as usual, I do Pilates regularly and my fibromyalgia symptoms are not as severe as before.
“Before the operation I could only work six hours due to the physical effort, but now I’m back to working 12-hour shifts and I feel much better. I gained a new lease on life and started studying for a bachelor’s degree in nursing to take the next steps in my career.
“And I can finally look forward to my wedding, which I am extremely excited about. “I ordered it right after surgery and have been working hard to get in shape, so I will be happy with how my wedding dress looks.”
Dr. Maxim Mukans, bariatric surgeon Weight loss in Riga said: “After gastric sleeve surgery, patients are unable to eat as much as before because their new, smaller stomachs feel fuller after eating less. It also serves to restart the metabolism of patients, many of whom have struggled with the diet for many, many years.
“Metabolic reset is very important because without it most people will end up in a cycle of losing weight and gaining weight over and over again. “Our patients receive full support after the procedure, including nutritional counseling if needed, and we empower them to make positive lifestyle changes.”
