Apparently the children’s mother has been identified as Yiini Paola Galan Herazo23 years old, was crossing the river in the Piedras Negras sector, when another man, who reportedly drowned, grabbed the woman and plunged her into the water, at which point he allegedly released the children.
This is how he told it Yulitza Galan, sister of Yiini. He added that his relative’s journey began several months ago, crossing the Darién jungle, but he had to stay in Mexico for several months before attempting to cross the border.
“According to what they told me, my sister was crossing the Rio Grande in the Piedras Negras sector and they told me that at the crossing she was with the two children and that during that time a boy was drowning and he grabbed my sister , pulled her under and she let go of the children. They say the river took them and we don’t know anything else. My little cousins are missing. They don’t want to give us any information and they have practically dashed our hopes that they would be found alive,” Yulitza said.
Yiini was told that he is in a hostel in New York, so the situation is not entirely clear. Relatives in Bucaramanga even received a call from a Mexican asking for $300,000 for saving the children.
