The latest analysis from British intelligence shows that the coming months on the frontlines of the war in Ukraine will be a time of immobility and deepening deadlock.
British intelligence reports that the most intense fighting on the ground has taken place on three front lines over the past week, but neither side has made any visible progress. At the same time, the Russians are suffering particularly heavy losses near Avdiivka in Donetsk Oblast.
Deadlock at the front
“Neither side has made significant progress in any area of military operations. Russia continues to suffer particularly heavy losses in the vicinity of Avdiivka,” British intelligence said in its latest analysis. The intelligence service reported that the most intense land fighting took place over the past week on three fronts: on the Kupany front in Luhansk Oblast, near Avdiivka in Donetsk Oblast and on the left bank of the Dnieper in Kherson Oblast, where Ukrainian forces have established a bridgehead have established. According to the British, the Russians were losing 500 to 1,000 people a day in the fighting at Avdiivka.
The report also pointed out, citing “eyewitness accounts”, the important role of small drones and artillery, especially cluster munitions, in repelling attacks from both sides.
Winter makes activities difficult
Situations are affected by weather conditions. “As a harsher winter is already underway in eastern Ukraine, there are few immediate prospects for fundamental changes to the frontline,” the UK Ministry of Defense intelligence agency said. It was similar last winter. Russia then focused on attacking critical infrastructure deep in Ukraine.
A day earlier, British services reported that there were major concerns within the top ranks of the Kremlin authorities about the announced future deliveries of Western fighter jets to Ukraine. For this reason, Russia has decided to accelerate the integration of its A-50 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft and S-400 air defense systems.
