Important news is coming from the Middle East regarding a possible pause in the clashes in the Gaza Strip and a hostage exchange between Hamas and Israel. Referring to the release of the hostages, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in his meeting with soldiers, “We are making progress, I do not want to exaggerate, but I hope we will receive good news soon.” The Prime Ministry announced that first the war cabinet meeting, then the security cabinet meeting and finally the cabinet meeting will be held.
The agreement between Israel and Hamas could provide for a “4 to 5-day pause in hostilities” in the Gaza Strip and the release of 50 women and children held hostage in Gaza in exchange for 3 Palestinians detained for every Israeli civilian released. CNN reported the terms of the deal, citing “several sources.” Hamas can also release women and children for each day the ceasefire continues. During the cessation of hostilities, Israel may suspend aerial surveillance by drones over the northern Strip for “at least 6 hours per day.”
Despite the progress, the Israeli prime minister reiterated that the goal is “to destroy Hamas. We will not stop until we achieve that.”
