Israel-Hamas, advance on hostages: what the agreement foresees

Progress on the ceasefire. The Israeli government decided to approve an agreement for the release of 50 Israeli hostages by Hamas. From what we have learned, the releases are expected to take place over a period of four days during which Tsahal, the armed forces of the State of Israel, will suspend military operations. The agreement stipulates that new releases will be made later. Furthermore, from what we understand, Israel will only release prisoners who are not accused of the murders.

According to the Israeli website Haaretz, the 50 hostages that could be released by Hamas under an agreement with Israel are 30 children, 8 mothers and another 12 women. The agreement was presented to the government by the war cabinet, led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and must be approved. More than 30 children and teenagers under the age of 18 and at least 13 mothers who were kidnapped with them by Hamas are detained in the Gaza Strip.

The United States “entered the negotiations” on the release of the hostages “with open eyes and pragmatism” and seeks to “maintain” that pragmatism. This was stated by National Security Council spokesman John Kirby in response to a question about Hamas’ reliability in this negotiation. “We know who we’re dealing with,” Kirby said.
