On the morning of Friday, November 24, following the scheduled release of 13 Israeli hostages by Hamas, Israel will release 39 Palestinian prisoners. Al Jazeera reports this, citing Israeli Army Radio. The release – it is explained – is scheduled for the evening and only after the Israeli citizens currently in Gaza return to their homeland. Palestinian prisoners, however, will be released from Megiddo, Damon and Ofer prisons. The 13 Israeli hostages who will be released by Hamas on Friday morning, women and children, would be part of “the same family unit”. The statement was made by the spokesman for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed Al-Ansari. Al Jazeera reports this.
Meanwhile, Israeli authorities have notified the families of the first group of hostages who will be released on Friday morning based on the agreement reached with Hamas and have notified all others that their loved ones will not be included. This is a change in strategy: yesterday the authorities made it known that they would not notify the family members involved before the return of those kidnapped to avoid false hopes if there were changes on the part of Hamas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office urged “not to spread rumors and unofficial information” and asked the media not to release the names of those abducted before they actually left the Gaza Strip and returned to Israel.
