The European Parliament’s resolution on amendments to EU treaties adopted on 22 November added an amendment calling for abortion to be included in the Charter of Fundamental Rights.
On Wednesday, the European Parliament voted on a proposal for major changes to the EU treaties (Treaty on European Union and Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union). This is one of the phases of an unprecedented political reform in the history of the European community. In the next phase, the report will be presented to the Council of Ministers for European Affairs. This will happen on December 12.
The document was adopted by a small number of votes. It was supported by 291 MEPs, 274 voted against and 44 MEPs abstained.
Abortion in the Charter of Fundamental Rights?
As noted by the website niedziela.pl, the text of the resolution contains a provision on abortion. Amendment No 245 amending Article 3 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights provides that that article shall not be entitled “The human right to integrity”, but “The human right to bodily integrity and autonomy”.
In addition, the authors of the resolution propose to add subsection 2a to the article, which reads: “Everyone has the right to bodily autonomy, to free, informed, full and universal access to sexual and reproductive health and rights and to all related healthcare services. without discrimination, including access to safe and legal abortion.
EP: Abortion is a human right
The secret addition of a sub-point which, if it were to come into force, would de facto force the introduction of access to abortion in all countries of the European Union is another example of how the European Parliament wants to impose termination of pregnancy on EU countries.
Let us not forget that in June 2021, Members of the European Parliament adopted a scandalous resolution defining abortion as a human right.
The document called on all EU member states to guarantee “universal access to safe and legal abortion” and to ensure that “abortion on demand is legal in the early stages of pregnancy” and later “when the health of the pregnant woman is in danger. ”
378 MEPs voted in favor of the document, 255 were against and 42 abstained.
