The popular Catholic YouTube channel of the religious community “Dom Matki” was removed by YouTube on November 3 for allegedly violating the platform’s policies on spam, unfair practices and fraud.
The English-language channel, entitled “HM Television”, was best known for the immensely popular documentary “All or Nothing”.
The film tells the story of Sister Clare Crockett, a young Irish nun who left her acting career to pursue a convent life. Crockett died in an earthquake in 2016 while serving in Ecuador. The documentary was viewed millions of times before it was removed along with the rest of the hundreds of videos available on the channel.
YouTube removes the channel
In a Nov. 22 interview with the Catholic News Agency, Sister Kristen Gardner, a member of the Sisters Servants of the Mother’s Home and author of a book on the life of Sister Clare Crockett, said the sisters were deeply saddened by the removal of the documentary . Although the canal’s owners appealed the decision, Gardner said the canal “remains removed.”
– The documentary about Sister Clare did very well, Gardner said, adding that it “helped many people return to the Catholic faith and also free them from mediocrity in their faith life.”
The channel was run by the Community of the Motherhouse “EUK Mamie Foundation”, a multimedia Catholic apostolate based in Spain, which was also the producer of the said documentary. According to Sr. Gardner’s apostolate is primarily aimed at young people, families and children and was born from the desire to “contribute to the new evangelization”.
Sister Gardner said YouTube did not warn the channel before removing it because it violated the platform’s policies.
“On November 3, we noticed that many of our embedded videos, including the video about Sister Clare Crockett, were showing an error message,” she explains. “We tried to log into the channel where these videos were located… and surprisingly the channel could no longer be found,” she added.
EUK Mamie immediately appealed the removal and received a swift response from YouTube stating that the channel violated its spam, unfair practices and fraud policies.
