Information about the attempt on the life of Budanov’s wife was unofficially reported by Ukrainian media on Tuesday. The reports were confirmed to the editorial staff of “Ukraińska Pravda” and “Kyiv Independent” by an anonymous representative of the Ukrainian Military Intelligence (HUR).

– Budanov’s wife complained that she felt bad, so we conducted tests that showed she was poisoned – an intelligence source said.

“These substances are in no way used in daily or military life. Their presence may indicate a deliberate attempt to poison a specific person,” we read in the publication. However, it was not specified which specific substances were found in the woman’s body.

Marianna Budanowa was hospitalized after her health condition deteriorated. – She has passed the first stage of treatment and is already feeling better – said the HUR representative.

The head of Ukraine’s military intelligence has been married to Marianna since 2013. In an interview with Radio Svoboda in August, Budanov admitted that the couple stays together in his office 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for security reasons.

In 2020, Marianna Budanova unsuccessfully ran for the Kiev City Council from the lists of the UDAR party of the Mayor of the Ukrainian capital Vitali Klitschko. In 2021, she served as Klitschko’s advisor on fighting corruption in sports.

HUR spokesman Andriy Yusov previously said that Russia had carried out more than ten attempts on the life of Kyrylo Budanov, who was murdered in September this year. he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general.

The agency’s main tasks include gathering intelligence, identifying external threats to Ukraine, countering terrorism and foreign intelligence activities. HUR reports directly to the Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
