“My 12-year-old nephew was forced to watch October 7 videos by Hamas”

Eitan Yahalomi, who is only 12 years old, is on the list of hostages released by Hamas on Monday evening, following the agreement reached between the Palestinian organization and the Israeli government on a ceasefire and prisoner exchange. The French-Israeli national is finally free, but it will take some time for him to get over the shock. Interviewed by French broadcaster Bfmtv, the boy’s aunt bluntly says, “They are monsters,” referring to the Hamas militia. According to Deborah Cohen, that’s the name of the woman, little Eitan would have to watch the video footage of the attack on October 7, a real “horror movie”.

The woman’s words were, “He experienced horror there.” Prisoners were “forced by Hamas/ISIS to watch horror movies that no one wanted to see, they forced them.” When asked if she was talking about the October 7 events, the woman said, “Yes, all the images.”

The child was abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz on 7 October. On the same day, his father Ohad was injured in a clash with Hamas men. It is currently believed that the man is still in the hands of militias in Gaza. Eitan no, he is free. The boy’s grandmother, Esther Yahalomi, told Haaretz that the 12-year-old was kept alone in a locked room for the first 16 days after his abduction. About a month later, he was reunited with other hostages from his kibbutz and found his kindergarten teacher. “He saw a familiar face and everything has been easier for him since then,” his grandmother added. “These were very difficult days, imagine what he went through. It is very difficult for me to talk about this,” she commented.

According to his aunt, the weeks spent in Gaza had left their mark on little Eitan, who was beaten, threatened and forced to witness unprecedented brutality. “I was hoping he was being treated well but apparently not, they are monsters,” said Deborah Cohen. “Every time a child cried, they threatened him with a gun to silence him. When he arrived in Gaza, all the civilians were beating him. We are talking about a 12-year-old child.”
