Munger, vice chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, died peacefully this morning at a hospital in California, a brief statement said.
“Berkshire Hathaway could not have been built to its current status without Charlie’s inspiration, wisdom and commitment,” says Buffett, 93, of his friend he met more than 60 years ago.
Munger was born in 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska, the same city as Buffett, and is known for his enormous business careerbut he was also a lawyer, architect, media manager and an excellent student.
He reported to the US Air Force during World War II and was sent to study thermodynamics and meteorology to settle at a base in Alaska; Once the conflict was over, he convinced a headmaster of the Harvard Law School He was admitted without a degree and graduated with honors, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Although Munger and Buffett had worked together in their youth at the latter’s supermarket, it was not until 1959 that they met again and struck up a friendship that led them to realize that they had very similar ideas about business and life.
