Israel, “we will settle accounts with Qatar”. Another war in sight?

There is no time to pause on a war front that is immediately at risk of opening another. “Israel will settle scores with Qatar once the Gulf emirate’s role in negotiations on the release of Gaza hostages is exhausted.” These are the words of the deputy director general for Strategic Affairs at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Joshua Zarka, in an interview with Israeli radio. And here we go: “Qatar played a negative role in welcoming (the group’s leaders, ed.) and legitimizing Hamas’ activities, and we need that at this time. But when this thing disappears from the world, we will settle accounts with them.”

Asked whether Doha knows that this is Israel’s intention, Zarka bluntly replied: “I think they have no doubts about this issue. And we have no doubt that anyone who has been on the side of Hamas will be hunted down in every possible way.” Qatar was, along with the US, probably the most active country in the negotiations between Hamas and Israel to reach agreement on the release of hostages and prisoners, implemented in the last days after the truce agreement.
