Poroshenko not allowed at the border. He was going to Poland

Ukrainian border services did not allow former President Petro Poroshenko to leave the country. The politician had planned meetings in Poland and the US.

Poroshenko posted a video on social media showing that he was not allowed to cross the border. In the recording, he is in the company of Ukrainian border guards, to whom he shows a document signed by the chairman of the Verkhovna Rada.

The former president called the entire situation a “theater of the absurd.” – I am far from thinking that the Border Guard acted on its own initiative. It is anyone’s guess who withdrew the document signed by the Speaker of Parliament, he said. However, he did not specify who he was referring to, but Ukrainian media speculate that it is President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Poroshenko: I had meetings planned in Poland and the US

Poroshenko explained that he had planned meetings in Poland and the United States. He wanted to talk to the Poles about the carriers’ protest at the border, and to the Americans about providing funding for military aid. He pointed out that aid was “almost exhausted” and “at risk in the future,” and that without it Russia would not be able to defeat it.

Poroshenko’s press service confirmed to PAP that he was unable to travel abroad on Friday. The agency’s interlocutor said the incident took place at the Ukrainian border crossing in Krakowiec, which leads to Korczowa in Poland.

Poroshenko described the events at the border as “anti-Ukrainian sabotage.” “This is not only an obstacle to the diplomatic work of my entire team. Unfortunately, it is a blow to Ukraine’s defense capabilities,” he said.

Male citizens of Ukraine between the ages of 18 and 60 are not allowed to leave the country. The restriction has been in place since the beginning of the Russian invasion, which began on February 24, 2022. Poroshenko is 58 years old. He held the office of President of Ukraine in 2014-2019.
