A blockade of the border crossing with Ukraine began in Slovakia.
In Slovakia, truck traffic towards the Ukrainian border crossing Uzhhorod began to be blocked. The State Border Service of Ukraine announced this on its Telegram account.
“According to information from the Slovak Border Guard, blocking of truck traffic through the Vysne-Germany border crossing, which is adjacent to the Ukrainian border crossing at Uzhhorod, began in Slovakia at 4:05 p.m. The action is carried out by representatives of the Association of Slovak Transporters,” we read in the press release.
As announced by representatives of protest groups, the transport of humanitarian aid, other essential goods, live animals, fuel and refrigerated goods will not be blocked.
“The rest of the freight leaving Slovakia will be admitted in a limited quantity, four trucks per hour. Trucks entering Slovakia will not be blocked. There will also be no restrictions on the movement of passenger cars and buses,” we read in the statement. .
In addition, there are currently about 900 trucks queuing on the territory of Slovakia towards Ukraine, as the spokesperson of the State Border Service, Colonel Andriy Demchenko, informed in a commentary for “Ukraińska Pravda”.
Situation at the border
On November 21, the border was blocked from the Slovak side for half a day, but then the Association of Slovak Transporters stated that they did not support the protest.
Since early November, Polish airlines have continued to block border crossings with Ukraine. These are Korczowa, Dorohusk and Hrebenne. Brussels completely waived the requirement for Ukrainians to obtain commercial permits, putting the Ukrainian transport sector in a privileged position compared to Polish competition.
Polish carriers mainly want to restore normal economic relations, that is, restore access permits for Ukrainian companies to transport goods, with the exception of humanitarian aid and supplies for the Ukrainian army. Recently, the media has finally become more interested in the issue. A few days ago, the co-organizer of the strike, Rafał Mekler, spoke on Polsat News about the reasons for the airlines’ protest.
