A chilly start to the day at Bristol Airport
It was the coldest night of the year since mid-March, when the temperature dropped to -3-7°C.
The lowest temperature was recorded in Cumbria, where it dropped to -9.4°C.
This is the scene at Bristol Airport this morning, where there were short delays while the plane’s stairs were de-iced.

Two recreational parks suddenly closed
A much-maligned holiday park in Wales has suddenly announced its closure with immediate effect.
Pontins, the budget resort chain, confirmed in a Facebook post that its parks in Prestatyn, Denbighshire and Camber, East Sussex, will close. More details here.

Cop28 opens in Dubai
Rishi Sunak said the UK can “stay strong” at the Cop28 climate conference as it continues to be a “leader” in the fight against climate change despite a setback to its domestic ambitions.
The prime minister also praised the king for his participation in the annual United Nations climate talks in Dubai, saying Charles’ role shows Britain’s authority on environmental issues.
Sunak will announce £1.6 billion in international climate finance, including support for projects to end deforestation and accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

Swansea police are searching for a 12-year-old girl who went missing on one of the coldest nights of the year.

A cold but mostly dry first day of meteorological winter. Here’s the full forecast for Wales today:
After a frosty start, most of Wales will have a dry day with some winter sunshine as the freezing fog clears. Winter rain can sometimes bypass Anglesey and Pembrokeshire. It’s cold, but the wind is still very light. The maximum temperature is 4°C.
This afternoon temperatures are rapidly falling below freezing and severe frosts are occurring across the country. Icy patches of fog form inland, especially in the east. Winter rains are hitting many other western coasts. The minimum temperature is -7°C.
