Oaxaca, Oax.- René Ricárdez Limón, Council for Welfare and Municipal Regulation and Nomenclature of the Oaxaca City Council, accepted that he questioned the sexuality of one of his colleagues when she asked: “Aren’t you asexual?” for which she was charged with sexual harassment.
The city employee downplayed his behavior, calling it a “minor incident,” albeit for the young woman who reported it. It was an insult to her private life. and free decision about your body.
The woman, who preferred to keep her name hidden and make further statements for fear of being re-victimized and isolated, disagreed with the behavior of the Oaxaca City Council.
Ricárdez Limón explained to the media that he was talking to three people when the young woman arrived, joined the conversation and asked: Hey, aren’t you going to become asexual?
‘Then he felt insulted and complained to me and said, ‘Why do you call me that?’ I just asked, it’s like I asked him, Hey, are you gay? “It’s not an insult, it’s a question.”
Through the campaign “Participate in Zero Tolerance Against Sexual Harassment and Harassment!” who heads the National Institute for Women (INM), emphasizes that both harassment and sexual abuse are forms of violence that entail humiliation and intimidation and harm the health, integrity, professional opportunities and human rights of those who suffer them.
In turn, he said the city council is already investigating the young woman’s sexual harassment complaint, which is supported by the Municipal Women’s Institute.
