A 28-year-old man has been arrested after a pregnant woman was stabbed in a quiet street in a Welsh town. The alleged incident occurred on Moy Road in Aberfan, Merthyr Tydfil, on Tuesday morning, prompting a large emergency response, including police helicopters searching for the suspect.

Schools were closed and residents were asked to keep their doors closed until armed officers from South Wales Police made an arrest on Tuesday afternoon. Images taken by The Mirror photographer show the hooded man being photographed at a nearby address.

A police statement said: “Following reports that a 29-year-old woman was stabbed in Moy Road, Aberfan, Merthyr, this morning officers arrested a 28-year-old man from Merthyr on suspicion of attempted murder. The incident generated a large emergency services presence.

The woman, who residents said was pregnant, was rushed to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff after being treated at the scene. Hours earlier, a police spokesperson confirmed that the woman’s injuries were “not considered life-threatening at this time.”

Lynn Terrett, who lives here and is originally from Merthyr Tydfil, explained how her daughter Kyra Terrett was walking her dog on a normal Tuesday morning when suddenly she witnessed what she said was a horrific incident, which had reportedly occurred in Moi-road. in the people. Lynn explained how when Kira heard the commotion and went out to see what it was, a woman “collapsed” in front of her. “My daughter was screaming and people were running from everywhere,” Lynn told the Press Association on Tuesday afternoon. “If I hadn’t screamed, people wouldn’t have left,” Lynn said, adding that her daughter was “very shaken” after the alleged incident.

Local residents say the woman allegedly attacked was “pregnant.” A local woman said: “We heard all hell broke loose. She is pregnant, maybe seven or eight months, and was taking one of her children to school. The police are everywhere and we hear that the boy escaped. Another resident, Susan Prothero, told the PA news agency she has lived in Aberfan for 30 years. “(It’s) a very quiet neighborhood,” he said. “I’ve lived here for 30 years and nothing like this has ever happened.”
