Biden is willing to compromise. It’s about the financing of Ukraine

According to unofficial information, President Joe Biden’s administration is willing to make concessions to Republicans to maintain US aid to Ukraine.

According to Reuters, the White House could tighten immigration policies and speed up refugee deportations to convince Republicans in Congress to approve aid to Ukraine, coupled with aid to Israel.

The Biden administration and Congress are trying to reach a deal that would provide military aid to two U.S. allies while preventing illegal immigration across the U.S.-Mexico border.

Republicans have refused to approve funding for Ukraine without additional measures to reduce the number of migrants trying to cross the US border illegally. This led to difficult negotiations between the White House and Congress, combining unrelated issues, Reuters sources noted.

US aid to Ukraine. Will Biden succumb to the Republicans?

Biden said Wednesday he would be willing to make significant concessions on border security. According to sources, the intention is to introduce new restrictions on asylum seekers and introduce a procedure for “accelerated deportation” of illegal migrants. Discussions are currently underway to introduce a limit on the number of asylum applications.

Republican Sen. Tom Tillis, part of a bipartisan group trying to reach a compromise, said any proposal would cut illegal immigration by at least half and that he did not know if an agreement could be reached before Christmas.

Previously, the bill with $61 billion in aid for Ukraine did not gain enough majority in the US Senate to proceed. All Republicans voted against. Biden believes that leaving Ukraine without American help is “absolute madness.” He called for “not to let Putin win” and not to give him a “gift.”
